Ping is a network diagnostic tool that checks whether a server, website, or other network host is reachable. It sends test packets to the specified IP address or domain and measures how long it takes to receive a response.
Enter a domain name or IP address, select an available test location, and start the check. The online Ping tool will show the server response time, the number of packets sent and received, and the packet loss percentage.
Ping time shows how many milliseconds a packet needs to reach the server and return to the test location. The lower the value, the faster data travels between the selected test server and the destination host.
A Ping below 30 ms is considered very good, while 30–70 ms is suitable for most websites and online services. Latency above 100 ms may become noticeable. The result depends on the distance to the server, network quality, and traffic route.
Packet loss means that some test requests did not return from the destination host. It can be caused by network congestion, an unstable connection, routing problems, ICMP filtering, or restrictions configured on the server.
A website can open in a browser even when its server does not respond to Ping. This happens when ICMP requests are blocked by a firewall, hosting provider, or DDoS protection system, while HTTP and HTTPS connections remain available.
Ping measures network latency to the server, but it does not test page loading speed, database performance, or web application response time. To evaluate website speed properly, analyze the Ping result together with HTTP response time and content loading performance.
