DNS Lookup is an online tool for checking a domain's DNS records in real time. It can identify the website's IP address, mail servers, authoritative name servers, and other domain settings, as well as help detect DNS configuration errors.
The tool supports A, AAAA, CAA, CNAME, MX, NS, PTR, SOA, SRV, and TXT records. A and AAAA specify IP addresses, MX defines mail servers, NS identifies name servers, CNAME creates an alias, TXT stores text-based policies, and PTR is used for reverse DNS lookups.
Enter a domain name or IP address, select a test location, choose a DNS record type, and select IPv4 or IPv6. If necessary, specify a custom DNS resolver, enable the short answer or DNSSEC option, and then start the DNS Lookup.
A custom resolver lets you check the response returned by a specific DNS server, such as Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 or Google 8.8.8.8. This is useful after changing DNS records because different resolvers may temporarily return old and new values due to caching.
A DNS response may remain cached by a resolver according to its TTL value. Until the cache expires, some DNS servers and users may continue to see the old IP address. Comparing results across different resolvers and test locations helps monitor DNS propagation.
Enter an IPv4 or IPv6 address as the target and select the PTR record type. The reverse DNS Lookup will show the domain name associated with that IP address. A correct PTR record is particularly important for mail servers and outgoing email reputation.
DNSSEC adds cryptographic protection to DNS responses and allows their authenticity to be verified. Enabling this option displays DNSSEC-related data and helps diagnose signature or chain-of-trust errors that can prevent a domain from resolving through DNSSEC-validating resolvers.
